Berachain (BERA) is the native gas token of Berachain, an EVM-compatible Layer 1 blockchain built on a novel consensus mechanism called Proof of Liquidity. What sets it apart is how validators must provide liquidity to the network rather than simply staking tokens, aligning incentives between liquidity providers and chain security. BERA is used to pay transaction fees, while a separate governance token, BGT, handles validator rewards and protocol decisions.
