Bitcoin Gold (BTG) is a proof-of-work cryptocurrency created as a hard fork of Bitcoin in 2017. Its defining feature is resistance to ASIC mining hardware, achieved through the Equihash-BTG hashing algorithm, which allows ordinary users to mine using standard GPUs. This approach aims to redistribute mining power away from large industrial operations and toward individual participants, restoring the decentralized ethos of the original Bitcoin vision. Bitcoin Gold also includes replay protection and unique wallet addresses for security. It trades on dozens of exchanges and maintains an active open-source development community.
