About Bitshares

BitShares (BTS) is a decentralized blockchain platform launched in 2013 by Dan Larimer, designed to facilitate financial services without relying on traditional intermediaries. It introduced a decentralized exchange, or DEX, allowing users to trade digital assets directly on-chain using smart contracts and a delegated proof-of-stake consensus mechanism. BitShares is known for its bitAssets, which are collateral-backed tokens pegged to real-world currencies and commodities. The platform influenced later blockchain projects, including Steemit and EOS, both also developed by Larimer, making it a notable early experiment in decentralized finance infrastructure.
