JTO is the governance token of the Jito Network, a key infrastructure layer built on Solana. Jito operates a liquid staking protocol where users exchange SOL for JitoSOL, retaining liquidity and DeFi access while earning staking rewards plus additional yield from MEV extraction. Jito developed an open source validator client that creates a competitive auction market for maximum extractable value within each block. The Jito Foundation oversees efforts to minimize MEV's negative effects, distribute profits fairly, and improve transparency across the Solana ecosystem, making it a significant player in both staking and MEV infrastructure.
