About Litecoin
Litecoin (LTC) is a peer-to-peer cryptocurrency created by former Google engineer Charlie Lee in 2011, built as a lighter alternative to Bitcoin. It uses the Scrypt proof-of-work hashing algorithm, which was originally designed to favor consumer-grade GPU mining over specialized hardware. Litecoin generates blocks every 2.5 minutes compared to Bitcoin's 10 minutes, enabling faster transaction confirmations and higher throughput. With a maximum supply capped at 84 million coins, Litecoin has long served as a testbed for features later adopted by Bitcoin and has inspired numerous other altcoins, including Dogecoin.
