MonaCoin MONA is an open source peer-to-peer digital currency and the first cryptocurrency created in Japan. Launched on January 1st, 2014 as a hard fork of Litecoin, it was designed as decentralized electronic cash primarily for Japanese users. MonaCoin uses the Lyra2REv2 algorithm to ensure fair mining opportunities and has implemented both SegWit and the Lightning Network for faster transactions. It enjoys strong cultural adoption in Japan, where it has been used for real-world purchases including land, and trades on multiple active exchanges worldwide.
