Pepecoin PEP is a layer 1 community-driven cryptocurrency inspired by the Pepe the Frog meme, created by one of the original Dogecoin community members from 2013. Built with a focus on fun and community, it mirrors the grassroots spirit of early Dogecoin. Pepecoin uses the Scrypt algorithm and supports merge mining alongside Litecoin and Dogecoin, allowing miners to secure multiple chains simultaneously. It launched fairly with no premine, ICO, or preallocation, reinforcing its commitment to decentralization and community ownership since its inception.
