About Stacks

Stacks (STX) is a blockchain layer built on top of Bitcoin that enables smart contracts and decentralized applications while inheriting Bitcoin's security. Unlike other smart contract platforms, Stacks uses a unique consensus mechanism called Proof of Transfer, which anchors transactions to the Bitcoin blockchain without modifying it. This allows developers to build DeFi applications, NFT platforms, and Web3 services that settle on Bitcoin. STX is the native token used for transaction fees, executing smart contracts, and participating in the mining and stacking processes within the Stacks ecosystem.
