About Symbol

Symbol (XYM) is a blockchain platform launched in 2021 as the spiritual successor to NEM. It introduces a proof-of-stake-plus consensus algorithm, rule-based tokens called mosaics, namespaces, multisignature accounts, and aggregate transactions, with its core client Catapult written in C++. Unlike EVM-based platforms, Symbol enforces security at the network level rather than the smart contract level. It has a strong following in Japan and Korea, with an ecosystem that includes NFT marketplaces, loyalty card systems, creator tipping platforms, and on-chain content storage services built by an active community.
