Tron (TRX) is a blockchain platform launched in 2018 with the goal of building a decentralized internet and becoming a large-scale operating system for decentralized applications. It uses a delegated proof-of-stake consensus model, enabling high throughput and fast transactions without relying on energy-intensive mining. Ethereum-compatible smart contracts written in Solidity can be deployed directly on the network, lowering barriers for developers. Tron expanded its ecosystem significantly by acquiring BitTorrent in 2018, integrating peer-to-peer file sharing with blockchain incentives. TRX serves as the native currency for transactions, smart contract execution, and governance across the network.
