Verus (VRSC) is a proof-of-work and proof-of-stake cryptocurrency launched in 2018 as a fair, no-premine, no-ICO community project. It introduces Proof of Power, a hybrid 50/50 consensus algorithm designed to resist 51% hash attacks and eliminate the nothing-at-stake problem. Verus uses VerusHash, a quantum-resistant hashing algorithm that allows near-equal mining performance across CPUs and GPUs, promoting decentralization. The protocol also supports zero-knowledge privacy features and enables automated provisioning of public blockchains as a service, positioning Verus as a scalable infrastructure layer for interchain applications and community-governed blockchain deployments.
