Zilliqa (ZIL) is a blockchain platform launched in 2017 and designed to address the scalability limitations of earlier networks like Bitcoin and Ethereum. Its defining feature is sharding, a technique that splits the network into smaller groups of nodes that process transactions in parallel, allowing throughput to scale as the network grows. Zilliqa was among the first public blockchains to implement sharding at a production level.
