Skycoin (SKY) is a cryptocurrency and blockchain platform designed as an alternative internet infrastructure. Developed by early Bitcoin and Ethereum contributors, it uses Obelisk, a web-of-trust consensus algorithm that replaces proof of work and proof of stake with influence-based node relationships. Transactions settle in roughly two seconds with no fees, costs covered instead by Coin Hours. The broader Skycoin ecosystem includes Skywire, a decentralized peer-to-peer network aiming to replace traditional ISPs, alongside CX, a deterministic programming language, a decentralized messenger, and a social media platform called BBS.
