THORChain (RUNE) is a decentralized liquidity protocol designed to enable cross-chain cryptocurrency swaps without relying on wrapped tokens or centralized intermediaries. Launched in 2018, it stands out as one of the first DEXs capable of natively swapping assets across fundamentally different blockchain architectures, including Bitcoin and other UTXO chains alongside Ethereum and EVM-compatible networks. THORChain currently supports over ten blockchains, including BTC, ETH, BNB, DOGE, and LTC. The native token RUNE serves as the settlement asset within liquidity pools, powering all transactions and incentivizing network participants such as liquidity providers and node operators.
